A seasonal reminder that Aotearoa has the highest death rate for melanoma in the world 😭

I’ve had a chunk removed from my arm because of melanoma, but worse are the people I know who’ve died young of this disease.

Please, please, please protect yourself and your children from the sun, and check your skin regularly!

Wow, didn't know, NZ is not only first but WAAAY out in first with many times skin cancer rates found elsewhere.

(Unfortunately in searching for science found lots of AI slop "the suns orbit is elliptical")

But higher UV levels at ground are confirmed.

@kevinrns Yes, it’s scary stuff! Our elliptical orbit of the sun is actually a factor - during the southern hemisphere summer we are closer to the sun than the northern hemisphere is during its summer 🤷🏻‍♀️
