@elettrona @JonathanMosen I have the dot pad X and I'm also blessed to have them monarch through a grant program. I love them both for what they do differently. It is really awesome to be able to read multi line braille in a BookShare book. I can more easily curl up on the couch with the dot pad X, but have been known to have a reclined lap full of monarch, as well.
@elettrona They’re quite different devices. Dot Pad needs to connect to something and has no storage or input, Monarch is fully self-contained and has a larger display. Dot Pad works very well with iOS and JAWS though and has a fast refresh rate.
@JonathanMosen I have more info about dotpad than monarch, I'll check it out, as they're both very expensive devices; when you have to rely on an aid, it's better to trust it.
And to be really honest, I'm scared. I don't want to offend you as an American person, but the path United States are walking, makes me feel not so optimistic regarding the future of USA-based assistive tech.
@elettrona In the end, it may come down to price for you. Monarch is double the price of Dot pad, but Monarch has a larger display and does so much more stand-alone, so they serve different market segments.
@elettrona Oh, not offended in the slightest. What I can tell you though is that there are many dedicated blind people behind Monarch, who truly believe in the importance of this paradigm shift in Braille. And Dot Pad is a great product. In fact the cells in Monarch are supplied by Dot.
@JonathanMosen Let me try to understand. Monarch is a stand-alone product, working as a multi-functional notetaker? I currently have the focus40 which works as stand-alone reader. But 14-cell and 40 cells have of course a slower experience than the multi-line.

@JonathanMosen And then I am laughing for a kind of word game, double meaning. In my area (near Venice) "mona" in our dialect is "pussy". Or even a naive, silly person. I'm currently using an app called "mona" to manage Fediverse. And if I could get/afford a MONArch display it would be over the top! Everything starts and ends up there
@JonathanMosen Humanware yes it's like BrailleSense and similar. And size? Like an iPad, or so? Thicker, I guess. Wondering if it can be held in a backpack.
This is a bonfire demo instance for testing purposes
