Honestly, the subtext of a lot of Beatles history is that The Beatles where getting scammed a lot. They where pretty much susceptible to anyone waltzing in and promising enlightenment and really needed someone around to be the voice of reason.

Since Magic Alex has threatened the new york times with a lawsuit over this in the past I'd like to say on the record that while a number of first-hand sources characterize Magic Alex as a charlatan and he himself did not challenge this characterization, that is in no way meant to imply that he was a literal con man, he was very adamant that this be clarified. What the technical distinction between a charlatan and a con man is, I have no idea, but there you go.

@Mandrake Based on what I've seen in the Get Back documentary, by the time of Let It Be, Ringo was the voice of "sitting quietly behind the drum kit and looking very, very tired."
