@alice I don't fully understand the conversation. "That's okay." is the response, but when somebody is living off tips and needs to pay so much on medical bills that they end up with just $8 it seems very far from "okay"..
It seems great they are at least happier and not suicidal, but I would really hope that everything will really be okay!!
@jschwart my mom (who has been comfortably middle class and hasn't had to work for decades) casually asking me to bring a few bottles of champagne to brunch. She's a little out of touch with how most folx live.
I used to be a (tenuously) middle class executive, until I had a breakdown, tried to kill myself, fled an abusive marriage, and got laid off shortly after. Now I actually really like my life (even though I'm pretty poor).
