Anti science:

Picture 1: In Scandinavia we are taught to eat healthy using The Food Pyramid. You should eat the most of what is shown at the bottom where the pyramid is wider (brown bread, vegetables), and least from the top (steaks and eggs).

Picture 2: The new food pyramid published by the US Department of Health, advising Americans to eat more steaks and eggs to “end the war on protein”.

This will lead to higher cholesterol levels and plaque buildup in the arteries of Americans.

No other countries want to buy US hormone steaks, so they have to push for more sales at home 🙄

They actually moved veggies to the bottom of the food pyramid? They used to be in the middle.

@randahl the main problem - whatever you eat in USA - is the food quality. 3 main issues:
1. Hormone contaminated animal products due to their accelerated growth strategy.
2. Sugar overload in processed food
3. High contamination of pesticides & crop protection agents.
Those 3 factors lead to overweight, diabetes, a special body form and a list of other health issues typical for USamericans. IMO food in USA is a concern, regardless which nutritional philosophy you follow.

@Ilka4You I absolutely agree. Plus: Dining out seems way more common in many US states than in northern Europe.

I have not read any research on this, but I suspect this creates an underclass of people who consume food that is prepared for them with the corporate incentive to use the cheapest (worst) possible ingredients.

@randahl yes, I think so too. Did you know "breakfast is the most importtant meal of the day" has nothing to do with scientific information but was amarketing strategy of Kellogs to sell their products? Even in Europe we grew up believeing breakfast had to be eaten, is the most important meal of the day, no matter what. That is how powerful marketing is - it works, goes deep and we all live through the hell right now what happens when marketing & politics marry.

The irony and all this is nobody can afford dairy anymore. It’s all too expensive. So our vegetables, unfortunately but that’s sort of leaves. A lot of people eating highly processed foods

Right now in the US beef prices are soaring and some processing plants are going to close. I don't have the spoons to confirm but I believe we may have contracted to import beef which likely includes tariffs.

To me both are wrong. We should all J.E.R.F. - just eat real food - minimally processed. Something of everything but not too much of anything. They say we are what we eat & that’s how I eat & only when I, hungry & barely any sugar. I’m 73, take only one medication, am fit & active & started eating this way a few years before I turned 60 & at that time was on meds for arthritis & was overweight. The change I made, made better & healthier than I was when I was in my 40’s. Science is changing, as it does & as it should as new things are learnt.

@randahl Gun violence is the #1 cause of death for U.S. children, but #RFKJr's "Make America Healthy Again Strategy" said not one word about it. It's a death cult.
