@rl_dane thanks. I use Grayjay on mobile so YT links open in that by default.

Lol'ed at that video. 15 years ago too! Sheeeesh.
And of course it's another Aussie... What are the odds.

@rl_dane surely any microslop365 app would be accessible from a chromium browser, no?

@rl_dane @pfr I use #Teams at #work daily.

It's clearly designed by committee, taking the worst aspects of #instantmessaging, #filesharing, #collaboration, and #voip and then putting it thru a blender and then dumped into an .exe.

Granted, it is deeply integrated into #Microsoft #Windows but it's equally awful in a web browser.

Sorry for this. 😅

#meme #work #Microsoft #teams #LossyPNG #work

"Running towards balloon" meme

Person is labeled as "Ordinary Humans"
Balloon is labeled as "Trying to get work done"
Creepy purple tentaghost guy is labeled as "Microsoft's 'Deep Integration'"

Created a "Lossy" PNG by manually selecting the dominant 15 colors and limiting to only those.

@rl_dane @peteorrall yeah, it do be like that. Yesterday I needed to write a letter on our company letterhead, but the logo in the header was not aligned properly. It took two of us 10 minutes to figure out how to fix it. Not a "deep integration" issue, but just a general Microsoft frustration.

Funny thing is, most of the people I work with know I'm a bit of a Linux/software geek so when I fail at a "simple" task on windows they start to doubt me. But I only use windows at work because I'm forced to, so I've lost all my knowledge I once had (and sometimes my will to live)

Also, my company doesn't use teams (win!) but we're about to do a migration from OneDrive to Share Point. Kill me now.

@pfr @peteorrall

Adjusting graphical objects in word processors is almost always a terrible experience.
I'd rather use Aldus Pagemaker from 1990 to do that. XD

lol mood (relatable)

@rl_dane the browser is now the OS. Or at least it's the app ecosystem.

I just made that up, but now I think about it, I predict we'll literally see an OS based around a browser. I suppose ChromeOS kinda did that, but I imagine the Chrome engine being the default GUI session and all apps just open in tabs. Surely this has been done already? 🤔

@pfr

Also, the source code complexity of modern browsers dwarf operating systems from 20 years ago.

I remember seeing a printout/fax in an office in the 90s comparing #Unix to OS/390.
One of the major points was that OS/390 was millions of lines of code, while Unix was only hundreds of thousands.

Last I heard, modern browsers are around 35 million lines of code, although this has been contested.

That's pretty much exactly what early ChromeOS looked like.

Look at this vid: https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/watch?v=lm-Vnx58UYo

(yt link, in case that invidious is down, too: https://youtube.com/watch?v=lm-Vnx58UYo )

I wanted to try GrayJay, but the download is unreasonably huge, so I just stuck with NewPipe and PipePipe.

Now, I don't have any media stuff on my phone anymore, just music and #AntennaPod.

I love how the #WebP "preview" that #GoToSocial generates is 3.77x larger (file size) than the original 16-color #LossyPNG. 😄

[WebP] (56,212 bytes)
[PNG] (14,907 bytes)
