The social contract between the US and Jews is mirrored in the Canadian social contract.

"You will be accepted in the New World", a deliberate departure from the Old Worlds of Europe and the Middle East. "Trade in your hundreds, or thousands of years of history and identity for safety and acceptance, as all are welcome here."

But what Jews have learned over the last ten or so years is that this social contract has ended. The US and Canada is no longer any more accepting of Jews than Europe or South America and they are responding, as Jews always have, by considering their options, migrating away from their homes to new spaces, whether that be Israel, South America, or across the US/Canada border, swapping one country's circumstances for the other.

I'm included in that, having moved from the US, where I've lived almost all my life, to Canada, where I have far fewer rights and virtually no safety/freedom as an immigrant without status.
