At home. Do not want to do it again. They invited all of the 'lonely' people that they know, and I was able to discover why they're lonely.

I'm glad that I have cigarettes.

@CStamp Oui...until the last week of January. House/puppy sitting on Sunday for ten days, but should have enough solitude to recover.

@CStamp It's coming along, slowly but surely. I've got about 90% of my shit unpacked...still have to hang all of my artwork and stuff too, but that'll come with time.

Then...well...repairs, updates, upgrades, and all of the *other* fun stuff.

It's nice knowing that all of my shit is in France already. *Getting* it all here was a headache and a half and I was really worried that US actions were going to screw me. Now that it's all here, there's not much financial damage that the US can do to me unless flights get prohibitively expensive.

I still have to get a motorcycle and two dogs here, but I'm hoping to be able to only make one more trip back before I'm *here*, ne'er to return.

@roknrol LOL. Oh, no. I hope the food was good. Every so often, I have invited lost souls for a holiday meal, though, it's usually gone well. Folk liked not being alone, I am a fabulous cook at times, and folk were on their best behaviour. :)

@CStamp It didn't go "badly"...people were pretty well behaved, but some of them are just not "my" people.

The food was good and no complaints about the hosts...they at least understand the type of person that I am and don't expect me to be a different person.

One guy, about 20 years my senior, led a pretty exciting life (rock star, parachutist) and he gets frustrated whenever the conversation is about anyone that's not him. He's used to being interesting, and he doesn't seem to get enough of that in retirement.

One of the women there I've met a couple of times but never socialized with...she got nasty with me about a couple of different stupid things - tried to hand me a hot plate and I reached for it with a cloth napkin (the same kind that she was handing me the plate with) and she got snarky "it's hot. hot. HOT." and then a little later she was acting like an expert on US law. Then later I was handed a bottle of wine to my left hand (she was on my left) and rather than rotate my entire body and knocking shit over on the table I poured with my left hand, under the bottle to her glass and she mumbled, "you shouldn't pour like that." In my head I'm thinking, "I'm not sloshing it, I'm not spilling it, and it's getting into your glass, what in the fuck more do you want?"

Just a group of people that are used to things being "their" way and not pleased if anyone does things any other way.

And honestly, I'm *fine* if people don't like me. I actually tend to expect it. But I don't need this passive aggressive bullshit. It made for kind of a long evening.

The upside (other than it being over) is that I'm learning all sorts of people that I know I don't need to socialize with any further.

I have enough information to be more discerning about future events, that's for sure.

@roknrol Yikes. Well, living is learning. :)

Congratulations on getting out, though. It’s sometimes nice perspective when home alone. :)

@erotica Not for me, but they'd certainly be better for me if they did.
