Another fedi friend - @alice - has fallen victim to the whims of payment processors :(

I wish that there was a good solution to this, as I have seen this happen to so many people here.

(lgbtqia.space blocks UK IP ranges, because of the Online Safety Act, so people here might not see Alice's toots.)

@neil @alice It happens to so, so many of us. And at times over the most unquestionable content.

I finally got my kofi back after removing any links from my fedi account but was basically told I'm just not allowed to share it.
It's fine if I use linktree or my website to point to it, then point people to that, just not directly. It's absurd.

What irks me is that the groundwork is there for payment processors to start classifying even photos at a pride party/parade as "questionable content". And where does it end? "To unlock your kofi, you must answer my riddle three." This is some bullshit theater, and none of us signed up for it

> Being allowed to be, solely at the mercy of others is not freedom.

I'm genuinely happy for you that you got your kofi back, even if you had to jump through hoops

Mastodon really needs a "followers-only" section to the profile bio, where you could put a line or two of text visible only to followers. Feels like that would work as a workaround to the sort of scraping likely used to determine if a profile is in compliance with these companies' rules.

@joykill @babe @neil @alice Could you pin a 'followers only' post?

@simon_brooke Sadly it won’t work because the payment processor can see the referrer link.

@joykill @neil @alice Would be nice to think so but in my case the account was suspended because they'd gone to look where the person making a donation was linked to it from.
Only workaround would have been if the adult material was followers only rather than the ko-fi

@babe
that's the idea - hide your adult links in the followers/mutuals section

@joykill could be a useful feature for someone who wants to keep those links away from the public.

But it also feels like a technological solution for a social problem in this case. Because the reason why it is needed now for @alice is because companies decided what they are doing isn't decent.

Next thing pronouns or mentions of disabilities should be follower-only, only because some regime doesn't like it when folks communicate their existence and needs.

@joykill @neil @alice As someone who makes an income off adult material that wouldn't work for me (or a lot of other people who get banned for similar reasons).
If we make an income off it, we generally need it to be seen to get subscribers and followers.

@babe @joykill yeah. It's not a good solution for sexworkers, but I can totally see it being useful in general.

The problem is that any solution that limits visibility hurts folx who rely on being seen for their income.

@joykill that's a good idea. Have an optional "followers-only" and "mutuals-only" section on profiles.

@neil @alice it's one of the things cryptocurrency was supposed to fix (and I've heard sex workers talk about using it for this very reason). Too bad about all the problems it introduces on its way to solving the problem of opinionated payment processors....

@neil @alice Might it be time for a group/co-op to go to the effort of finding a way through the regulatory labyrinth and the funding minefield to set up a card issuer that has governance accountable to the community in some way?

@neil @alice yeah i work for an european payment system, wholly separated from the card system. It is ... A mess. The compliance and risk assesment sessions are... Quite something
