Does anyone knows a simple software to make sound effect?

I’m thinking of something like bfxr, but I’m not interested in 8bits style here; does an “analogue” equivalent exists?

@NIGHTEN What OS/platform are you using? Are you looking specifically for a web app like bfxr, or would something you have to download and install be ok?

@fstateaudio I'm on macos, but I also have access to windows. I'm really okay with installing something that solves this problem!

@NIGHTEN Right on. There used to be a bunch of sound-generator things kinda similar to that around, but they seem to have gone away with the rise of faster PCs and plugins. I did get one called Orangator to run on win 10:

Another option would be ocenaudio (cross-platform even):

It's an audio editor, but has some features that can generate sound also, plus fx to mess with (and can use plugins). Would be more of a step-by-step process tho. (cont)

@NIGHTEN Yet another option would be LMMS (also cross-platform):

https://lmms.io/

It might seem like overkill to use something intended for making entire songs for this, but I think this is one of the easier ones to figure out enough to get a sound out of, and would probably be just as easy as getting a standalone synth running and figuring out how to trigger it etc. Maybe get ocenaudio (or Audacity or whatever) too just for trimming, adjusting volume etc.

@NIGHTEN That would be a bit more involved than bfxr, but comes with several options for different kinds of sounds, including a different implementation of sfxr, should you want it. :)

@fstateaudio Hey thank you so much 😊 I really appreciate the detailed explanation!

I installed and played around with LMMS, and while it sure is complicated I managed to get around and made roughly what I had in mind. Thanks again for the suggestion!

I could maybe just record and sample things around but I’d prefer to synthesize some abstract sounds for my use case
