He did not learn until later that he had witnessed a #US attack on an *alleged* Islamic State camp.
#Trump announced late Thursday that the US had launched a “powerful & deadly strike” against forces of the Islamic State group in #Nigeria. The Nigerian government has since confirmed that it cooperated with the US government in its strike.
Nigerian villagers are rattled by #US airstrikes that made their homes shake & the sky glow red
Sanusi Madabo, a 40-yr-old farmer in the Nigerian village of Jabo, was preparing for bed Thursday night when he heard a loud noise that sounded like a plane crashing. He rushed outside his mud house with his wife to see the sky glowing a bright red.
The light burned bright for hours, Madabo said: “It was almost like daytime.”
@doktorzjivago haha jag har sett den också och tänkt vilket ställe! 😄 Great minds osv. Italien tittar jag en del på, vill bo där ett halvår. Går ju inte nu men när yngsta är 18 år.
If anybody needs a room from 28.12. till 30.12. (2 nights) for the #39c3 - I sadly cannot make it and have a room for two (Superbude, St. Pauli) which I cannot cancel. Please write me a message. Original price is 363,20€ - if you can, I would be glad if you can pay for it (or at least a part of it).
@gloriouscow thanks! In the end, I only wrote a SYSTEM.DRV from scratch. Display, keyboard and mouse are carefully chopped off WIN100.BIN and lightly tweaked to work with Windows 2
Residents of Jabo, a village in the NY Nigerian state of Sokoto, told AP Friday that they were seized with panic & confusion at the airstrikes.
They also said the village had never been attacked by armed gangs as part of the violence the #US says is widespread, though such attacks regularly occur in neighboring villages.
“As it approached our area, the heat became intense,” recalled Abubakar Sani, who lives just a few houses from the scene of the explosion.
@Daojoan I have walked barefoot into a meeting with people from outside the company and introduced myself as a code monkey... then later my boss came in, introduced us all again, and I was "our senior guru" 😜
I think I have a minimally working Windows 2 system for my Apricot. Time to test it extensively, including the real machine. And then write a proper article about it. Wow.
We have "growth hackers" but no "stability hackers." "Disruptors" but no "preservers." Our entire vocabulary is oriented toward the new. We have no language for the equally difficult work of keeping existing things from falling apart.
@Daojoan duh, because there is no big profit margins in it. Tech companies struggle with simple IT support tasks, even when receiving lots of money they can't be bothered to engage because "opportunity cost" says someone is trying another crypto coin and they should be first to pick it up to short it high. Society somehow understands that maintenance is important but this not a question you will see be driven politically 🤷♂️
@drahardja@neil@mcc At this point, I would do. Lynx and Links only get one so far these days, and trying to plug v8 into one of them seems like it works me fraught with peril.
@rooster Not actually great advice: expiration dates on OTC meds are set to promote stock turnover, not reflect a magic date at which the drug suddenly turns to chalk. In reality, most tablet-form meds stored in cool dry conditions degrade very slowly and are still effective, albeit possibly less than maximum efficacy, a decade or more later.
