Earlier this month, in a first for the Danish government, Denmark’s #military #intelligence said that shifts in US policy were generating new uncertainties for Denmark’s security.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that “Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security.”
But the appointment drew condemnation from Greenland & further deteriorated the relationship between the US & #Denmark, which used to be close allies.

#Trump announced Sunday he was appointing Louisiana Gov #JeffLandry, a political ally, to the position. Denmark’s foreign minister quickly criticized the move as “totally unacceptable” & said he would summon the #US ambassador in Copenhagen for an explanation.

It appeared to be the first time the #US had appointed a special envoy to #Greenland. That gives the territory — a gigantic frozen island inhabited by fewer than 60,000 people — something in common with the war in #Ukraine, the conflicts in the #MiddleEast, & a handful of other issues; #Trump has tapped someone close to him to manage all of these as priorities.

On Dec 8th, a federal judge threw out the Trump EO blocking #WindEnergy projects, yet today, Dec 22nd, the Trump admin said it is pausing leases for 5 large-scale offshore #wind projects under construction in the East Coast due to unspecified [aka bullshit] “national security” risks identified by the Pentagon.
The pause is effective immediately & will give the #Interior Dept, which oversees offshore #wind, time to work with the #Defense Dept & other agencies to assess the possible ways to mitigate any security risks posed by the projects [come up with some bullshit excuses], the admin said.

And still our political class fail to take the issue of climate change & ameliorative actions seriously in any other way the rhetorically.
Words are cheap, but our lack of cohesive & comprehensive action(s) on climate change are becoming potentially ever more costly (if not to us to the next generations, who we are betraying).
