A Palestinian man, diagnosed with cancer and living in the Al-Buraij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, built a home with primitive means using mud to shelter his family amid a shortage of reconstruction materials and the stifling Israeli blockade on the enclave.
This is the helmet of journalist Raneen Sawafteh, after she survived an attempted killing by settlers in Beita town on 8 November 2025.Raneen was assaulted with clubs and large stones in a deliberate attempt to kill and cause serious harm.
The attack completely shattered her elbow joint and left her with three fractures in the same arm, in addition to severe wounds and heavy bruising. The most painful injuries affect her ribs; Raneen says she is still struggling to breathe normally.
“Gaza is a model: a preview of a global order where international law is discarded, colonial violence is normalized, and entire populations are sacrificed with impunity.”
Journalist Chris Hedges says that Israel’s attacks on Gaza, rebranded from “self-defense” to “war” to a hollow “ceasefire, remains an ongoing genocide carried out against a besieged, defenseless population.
He notes that despite the ceasefire, Israel has violated nearly all its terms, continued bombardment and killings, restricted aid to famine levels, expanded its military control to more than half of Gaza, and enforced a shifting “yellow line” where civilians, including children, are shot on sight.
Hedges underscores that Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians face systematic destruction: mass displacement, starvation, the obliteration of infrastructure, and denial of reconstruction materials.
The genocide, he argues, has merely slowed, not ended, becoming a form of “slow-motion killing,” with daily deaths, rampant malnutrition, collapsing living conditions, and mounting prisoner abuse.

Human Rights Watch has found Israeli occupation forces committing war crimes in southern Lebanon by deliberately targeting civilian construction equipment and infrastructure vital for post-war recovery.
In a report released Monday, HRW documented Israeli strikes between August and October 2025 that killed three civilians, wounded 11 others, and destroyed at least 360 bulldozers, excavators and heavy machines, along with a cement and asphalt factory.
The attacks have severely obstructed reconstruction efforts in southern Lebanon, where around 10,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, leaving some 64,000 people displaced.
HRW found no evidence that the targeted sites had any military function, despite Israeli claims they were linked to Hezbollah. Lebanese authorities, UNIFIL peacekeepers and HRW researchers all said there were no military objectives near the struck locations. The group also identified remnants of US-made munitions, including JDAM components, at strike sites.
Concluding that the destruction was unlawful under international law, HRW called for an immediate halt to arms transfers to Israel and targeted sanctions on officials implicated in serious crimes, as Israeli attacks continue despite a ceasefire and amid ongoing international legal cases against Israeli leaders.
