A new business model for book shops is doing well in Tokyo, where the old one is dying out.
I rent the shop space and keep the shop. Then I sub-let shelf space in 40-centimetre chunks for €30-60 per month to self published authors, small publishers, associations, celebrities. And I pocket 5% of their sales.

📚Favorite novels include Babel by R.F. Kuang, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, No.6 by Asano Atsuko, Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zi & Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich. Favorite nonfiction includes Fresh Banana Leaves by Jessica Hernández, The Other Slavery by Andres Reséndez & Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown. And my favorite manga ever is Fullmetal Alchemist - unbeatable IMO (although I am loving The Summer Hikaru Died these days). I’m rodile on Storygraph.
✏️Current writing projects include a novel about lesbian ecoterrorists & an amorphous story about an anarchist-reformist enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies? situationship.
🎶Music I love includes Mitski, The Muslims, The Gits, Left at London & Doechii. I also love swimming and sleeping and petting my dogs!!!! And persimmons 😅

I finally got to reading PKD's "Ubik" this week. I think I bought the paperback like 10 years ago, but I never read it, because I hated the print quality. 😁 I really hate it when the text in a book is not looking crisp and sharp, but I'm a weird person I guess.
Anyways, I'm happy to report that this was probably my favorite PKD book I've read to date. What's your favorite?

The net is like books. There are well-known ones, with hundreds or thousands of content distributors. Self-published ones nobody ever reads. And everything in between. The best form of promotion, if you can get it, is widespread word of mouth. But you can't pay for it or organise it, it's as much about luck and timing as creative promotion.
There are a handful of giant global publishers who end up with most of the money made from books. But nobody controls books.
Any suggestions for where to buy used books online for decent prices? Not expecting thrift store prices, but if they’re asking $5 off the price of a new book, they can kick rocks. 🙂
