Does everybody else here experience "being the asshole in the room" among your friends and family for trying to switch people to newer open tech (like #ActivityPub and #matrix) because they're all just accepting of the limitations of the old ways, even though it wouldn't be that hard and make things much better long-term? Lock-in is a bitch.

Have you heard about #BridgyFed? Using this free service, I have been able to link my #Substack publications to the #Fediverse so that each now has a handle that can be followed on #Mastodon and other #ActivityPub platforms. Here they are:

One short question: how to allow instance posts to be quoted in GoToSocial? On the profile or posts setting, on [instance URL] /settings, I don't find the "who can quote" option. I imagine a future where every actual article (and piece of audio or video) is an #ActivityPub item itself. So we wouldn't boost and reply to posts that link to this work, but boost and reply to it directly. And every news website is also a fedi server. So nobody like Facebook can get in the middle of it again. Eventually replies are redesigned to work as well as they do on Reddit.

I don't see how this could work as decentralized on #ATproto.

I currently installed my GoToSocial instance on VPS and now I'm conflicted about how to organize the project better.
GoToSocial is needed to interact with Fediverse users, as the other platforms miss some activities.
⁃ WriteFreely: very good, minimal to write, but it has no space for search or comments. It's OK just for the stories.
⁃ WordPress: it has federation through plugin, comments appearing on the site, but not yet usable as a fediverse actor for common interaction, with an ordinary client. Icecubes, Mona, Phanpy, Enafore, Tweesecake, Elk, etc. And "enable mastodon apps" is still buggy.
⁃ As I have contents both in Italian and English, I currently have to choose: do I federate the English and Italian WordPress sites where real world and long-form fictions are published, and have just an unified project's instance on GoToSocial where I personally talk (me and my other co-worker) both in Italian and English? I honestly am very conflicted. #activitypub #gotosocial #WordPress

please add the ability to run a podcast off #ActivityPub in addition to RSS. then we could boost and reply to an episode itself, not just a separate post linking to it.

#SelfHosting Week 4, phase 1.
Let's restart with week 4, as I took several days of PAUSE into my Self Hosting experience.
Today I took the bull by the horns and removed LEMMY as I don't exactly need a Reddit-style format; I just need to interact with my readers through fediverse.
What I did, installing GoToSocial. And the result is I can talk to users through my already owned Fediverse clients! Not to kention the fact I can manage users via command line without much trouble.
Consequence, I now have a fully functional account with my own nickname, my real name, bio, and stuff. Now let's install the Fediverse client. It's really empowering to self-host our own social networking platform.
