Just had a #Labour canvasser at my doorstep. First time somebody has confirmed I was one of the registered voters before talking to me...
I said I would keep an eye on constituency-level polling (not on the bookies, that's far too easy to manipulate) and pick the party most likely to beat Reform.
She asked how I'd vote if that wasn't a consideration, and I told her that I'd vote #GreenParty. Specifically I told her that while I'm prepared to give Labour a little slack on turning round the economy, Starmer and Streeting are going out of their way to hurt #trans people, including my friends and family.
She said there are lots of trans allies in the Labour party, and I said that doesn't matter if they can't achieve anything - I've heard the same line from Lib Dems and others in the past. She agreed with me and would feed it back.
A polite doorstep conversation, doing my bit for democracy and for trans rights.
"It’s certainly true that #Polanski polarises opinion. It’s also the case that he might just be the most exciting politician of his generation. He became a member of the London Assembly in 2021, but his cut-through since becoming leader of the #GreenParty last September has been remarkable. Membership has more than tripled to 184,000, putting the once fringe party ahead of the Conservatives."

"That is why #Labour is so comfortable competing with #ReformUKLtd and the Tories over bashing migrants. It is not because Starmerites are instinctively xenophobic or racist. Most are urban middle-class professionals who find such sentiments distasteful. But if forced to choose, they would rather indulge anger directed at migrants and refugees than anger aimed at bankers and CEOs." -- Owen Jones
He's correct. I hadn't seen this before, but it rings true.
This is a really good analysis of how #Labour became a right wing party.
I was aware of their courting of rich donors, but I'd missed the revolving door between Labour governments and the defence and private healthcare industries, and the point about Labour directing anger towards immigrants in order to divert it from the #kleptocrats I'd completely missed.

The investigations launched into Mandelson so far focus on his historical conduct, with Epstein. But we need to know this as well: what did Mandelson do for Palantir?

“Everybody is so fed up with #Labour’s only strategy being ‘vote Labour to keep the Tories out’, and now it’s ‘vote Labour to keep Reform out’,” Spencer tells me. “It’s like: how about you actually just do something to make people vote for you?” -- #Green party candidate Hannah Spencer in the Gorton and Denton by-election.
She has a point.
