I got energized by a blog post by Jorge Castro, the tireless promotor of Bluefin and all things OCI.
That's how I got busy the last couple of days in setting up Aurorix, my own take on Aurora (the KDE sister of Bluefin).
It's been an incredible lot of fun, and the result is something that works very well for me. Expect more details later on in this journey.
Now, don't worry, Slackware with Mango is superb and Gentoo (after losing it's KDE flavor for me) will be glorious with dwm.
Enough geeking still going on, but making your own automated, container-based, immutable KDE spin rocks and rolls.

Gentoo's 2025 retrospective encapsulates everything I like about the project: it's chugging along just fine, it's not going for dramatic changes, chasing trends or "business friendliness". It's doing what it does well and that's it. It's a genuine volunteer-based project and a far cry from the many corporate-sponsored ones.

Lots to love about #Codeberg right now.
#Zig moved to it. LibreWolf is using it. Many #Fediverse projects use it including the FEP process. #Fedora set up their own Forgejo instance (the underlying software for Codeberg).
Now #Gentoo is switching from GitHub to Codeberg!
I've migrated most of my projects there as well.
Every one of these stories is a win for #OpenSource and a middle finger to #Microslop, which is a win-win all around. 😊
How to absolutely *not* do #OpenSource: require people to commit to work on other issues with your project in order to file bugs. So, sorry, #Typer, I won't be filing bugs. You figure out how you messed up your release yourself.
Also, please don't use #FastAPI. They are clearly bothered by the fact that people dare use their projects and waste their precious time with support requests.

EDIT: I'm talking about:
"""
After submitting this, I commit to one of:
Read open issues with questions until I find 2 issues where I can help someone and add a comment to help there.
I already hit the "watch" button in this repository to receive notifications and I commit to help at least 2 people that ask questions in the future.
Review one Pull Request by downloading the code and following all the review process.
"""
Further down the form. Yes, after you already wasted time checking for duplicates, duplicate discussions, etc.
Wow, #Gentoo moving from GitHub to Codeberg is cool. Haven't run Gentoo for years now but still have a soft spot for it (I learned so much running it as main driver).
I also use Codeberg für my code (and joined the association) but we can't just "move everything to Codeberg". That's neither sustainable nor a good model. We should have more associations like Codeberg to offer those kinds of services. Create a whole web of forges for collaboration while we can watch GitHub go to hell.

Gentoo looks back on a successful 2025
Happy New Year 2026! Once again, a lot has happened in Gentoo over the past months. New developers, more binary packages, GnuPG alternatives support, Gentoo for WSL, improved Rust bootstrap, better NGINX packaging, … As always here we’re going to revisit all the exciting news from our favourite Linux distribution.

Has anyone installed Gentoo on a Framework Desktop? Any issues worth mentioning?
