A1:
After few days skiing I am back home.
I got carried a bit by answering other questions and forgot about the first one (and trying to suggest some solution for your bombs).
In the mountain village where we are staying each year on our skiing trip we try the local beer every time. It is usually quite horrible, sometimes we don't even finish it. But this year it was really good, we were pleasantly surprised that they managed to brew something good after so many years we were going there for only one beer.
@cainmark @ascentale @grammasaurus @bikenite Oh, yeah. Disaster Relief Trials. But it really seems very haphazard now as organizing it doesn't seem to make it happen on an annual basis anywhere.
It really ought to be a growing movement, IMO.
Welcome to #BikeNite on Friday, January 9th.

Our intro:
Q1. Where are you posting from today? And a non-cycling question: What is something tasy that you ate recently?

What's the disaster recovery by bike one? I can't remember it.

A8. This sign stands at the entrance to the Arakawa cycling course next to the Toda Bridge (which is where I most often join the course). It marks the beginning and also the end of the "proper" bike ride (i.e., along the river rather than in traffic). The lettering has long since faded. I was amused yesterday to see people have been tagging it by writing in the dust.
And our last question of the week:
Q8. Do you have any photos, cycling related or not, to share from the past week? Tell us about it!

@ascentale @bikenite A8. Tirana is more car-centric (a recent development, I gather) than other Albanian cities, but you still see a lot of bikes & trikes here, including acoustic cargo trikes. Here’s an older person cycling a load on an upright tadpole cargo trike, on a slight uphill. (1/2)

@ascentale @Weather_Rock_Wx @bikenite A3. I have more than one, for different reasons. I’m fortunate in that #WaterlooRegion has a *lot* of options. I can easily cycle out to quiet country roads from my urban home in 20 minutes. But I can also enjoy MUPs to get to brewery patios that make for a great destination. And as I’ve written here before, I love cycling to get my groceries!
These choices *all* give me a mental break, and they're integrated into my life 😀🚴🏼♀️❤️
@Weather_Rock_Wx asks:
Q3. Where is your favorite place to bicycle to get away from the news cycle? Photo sharing encouraged.
(Don't worry, we will still have our traditional Q8! But an additional question, does cycling help you take a needed mental break?)

@ascentale @grammasaurus @frostpendeln @bikenite Like Phil, I think I gained awareness of #Frostpendeln through @xtaran
I'm not sure of specifically Mastodon things, but there are of course various initiatives that cycle advocates do like Bike to Work, Bike to School, and I can't remember the "catchy" names, but there are initiatives about biking a certain amount per month, or reducing sub-5 mile trips with the car by taking a cycle instead.
The hashtag #CarryShitOlympics amuses me. #BikeNite

@MarkBrigham @ascentale @bikenite On my ride yesterday I couldn't go more than a couple of blocks between cars parked in the bike line. (NB for the most part just sharrows along the curb.) The parked vehicles would sometimes cause a back-up in traffic too as car changed lanes to get around.
This looks a lot better.
@ascentale @bikenite
Took a walk on Hennepin Ave earlier this week. Minneapolis just completed a 2-year makeover between Lake Street & Franklin Ave. It's a major improvement, providing good infrastructure for walk & bike & autos in that ~1 mi stretch. Also of note: The City has done a good job keeping the three (walk, bike, auto) types of lanes clear of snow & ice in this stretch, in contrast to surrounding neighborhoods.
Additional detail in alt text for each pic. #BikeNite A8 #MNastodon 1/2

@ascentale @bikenite A7. Although I always wear a helmet and have since my tweens, it’s never been a problem for me. However, I hope some of the suggestions some here have offered are helpful to the questioner. #BikeNite
Q7. Does your face get irritated from your helmet straps? Do you know of any good solutions?

A4. Do other exercises exist?
My doc is after me to walk more, put in 10,000 steps a day. I got a Garmin watch specifically to encourage myself to walk. Thing is, I do nearly 10,000 just on my daily commute (if I don't cycle to work) and walking about my place of work.
I think the doc has more in mind something like going for a walk, 5-10k or so.
@Anibyl @ascentale @bikenite I was making a joke. I will happily give away or repurpose parts, but almost never dispose of something unless it's clearly worn out beyond hope.
