@lcwheeler

I concluded a while ago that it's not metaphorical at all.

Remind me where this quote is from?

Something that kinda smacked me in the face once I'd started to integrate regenerative reciprocity into my worldview is how deeply extractive colonialism is baked into the very DNA of #ScienceFiction. Puts a whole new spin on a whole lot of things....

@cavyherd Yeah, she had several punchy essays in Brading Sweetgrass that make use of this metaphor. The Windigo is a monster of insatiable hunger and it must be stopped. This specific quote is from the chapter called Defeating Windigo.

I need to reread that.

I actually encountered the W*nd*go concept some years ago from an Indigenous writer on pre-Musk Twitter.

Apparently Indigenous cultures (or at least the poster's) put a •lot• of effort into keeping that mindset out of sight because it's •so• pernicious. One is, evidently, not even supposed to speak the name, IIUC.

I doubt the thread still works if you're not signed in, but it appears to still exist:

@lcwheeler @cavyherd

If you haven’t read the novel *Moon of the Crusted Snow* by Anishinaabe writer Waubgeshig Rice, I recommend it.
