The best thing about blogging is, quite literally, all the emails I get that could be their own blog posts themselves! I love them! I love them all! Funny thing is, everyone apologizes for writing lengthy emails when---to me---it wasn't at all lengthy! In fact, I wish it could have been longer! Makes me wanna sign up for an email address strictly for writing lengthy emails to people back and forth, penpals! FYI, I do penpal with others by using technology. technology after twitter seems to incentivize smaller text posts, character counts etc. Not to say that editing down is bad, but that seems like a deliberate choice to remove nuance from discussions and promote fast, witty takes over slow thoughtful communications.
Even on platforms like Mastodon, some instances have a character cap. (I say some because I don't know what the distribution is like). For example, this post has no characters left in the post.
Oh yep I completely agree. I am also the kind of person that can read a single book for like 5 hours straight. I watch 6 and 7 hour video essays on YouTube so I am actually glad to say my ability to connect with longer material is almost a superpower. I see everyone online having issues engaging with lengthy stuff but I can't empathize. To be fair I do know a few ADHD folks, but just every time I read something about attention spans being so short I can't put myself in their shoes. It's healthy to engage in longer things, even longer phone calls, even, I think anyway! @lilacperegrine
