The Verge thinks it’s time to retire the word podcast as the majority of shows are locked into ecosystems like Spotify or are videos hosted on YouTube.

I say it’s time to reclaim podcast as a term that means an easily downloadable non-DRM audio file.

Audio Interface shows are podcasts. You can listen wherever you want including, yes, your old iPod.

It’s finally time to retire the word ‘podcast’

“Podcast” is becoming an outdated relic

@audiointerface

it's not the file but the innovation in distribution that matters. podcasts are our best example of decentralized media, outside of maybe a website. anybody creates it and publishes it on their own and anybody else can consume it easily using completely interchangeable software. it's how we should/could do all articles, video, radio, music etc.

we should only give up the term when all media works this way. much to build and normalize but it's obviously where we should be going.
