As a person that worked with many well known public figures who are LGBTQ people, I have repeatedly been asked questions such as “should I hide who I am?” or “what will happen if I come out publicly?”

Each time, I have responded that it's perfectly okay to be yourself. In such situations, I always said that there is no need to consult with me beforehand about whether a person should tell their family and friends, as I'm not in position to say “yes” or “no”.

In situation when a public person wants to come out, this always means that it's important to support that person and ensure the person that no matter what, regardless of outcomes or impact on career, we are going to work it out together.
