I've been saving socks that need darning, telling myself I'll get out my sewing machine or teach myself visible repair (after writing a story literally titled Visible Mending).
Middle kiddo comes home for the holiday and immediately starts darning their socks. Then asked if I had any to mend...
@susankayequinn find yourself a darning egg. It's a wooden egg you stuff into the sock you're working on to give it some shape as you fix it. I found an old one at an antiques store long ago and have used it to fix my favorite hand knit wool socks many times over the years.

@joshsutphin I've been trying to get more sustainably crafted and durable socks but they tend to be heavier! Mending really is a great solution...
