The time to tell me that you "are now vegan" was when you accepted the invitation for dinner, in which I asked you for any dietary preferences.
Or shortly thereafter.
Not a few minutes before I start to serve, making me rush around to turn out a vegan main course with zero planning.
*Of course* I will cater for you - I'd love to! - but that was an unwelcome last minute twist.

@neil I had this once with a friend, who at the end decided to forgo vegan in favour of the ice cream. I was a ‘bit’ mad.

Ha, ha, ha. So what did you do with the chicken?
@neil But what if they turned vegan literally in the brief moment between beginning to take a seat and their butt hitting the chair? Like a sudden epiphany they felt compelled to share that very instant?
@neil I knew someone who revealed their new-found veganism _after_ the hour-long discussion about where to eat, while the ten of us were standing outside the takeaway looking at their menu. I admit we were not sympathetic.
