Ordered a scoby!

Having to do this online feels a bit like a failure - I should really know more people around here who like to ferment stuff.

@slothrop I used to make an amazing black cherry kombucha that was 10x better than the cherry kombucha that was available in the shop... It really justified the effort in setting aside time to siphon off and prepare the next round every two weeks.

One time, I was lazy and just left it brewing all winter... I expected that it would get a mould or something after being left in the cupboard for more than 3 months but it was actually perfect! It was too tart for the second round so instead of flavouring it I just used it as a vinegar and it was AMAZING ✨ The whole batch lasted me the rest of the year and really shook up a load of recipes I made...

I'd love to do it again but yeah... I don't have any decent glasswear and also don't know where to turn to get a decent scoby around here 🤷

@slothrop might be able to find someone locally with one via craigslist or FB marketplace?

@slothrop sounds like you may already have one on the way, but I’ve grown a scoby from a store-bought bottle of kombucha. Just add the bottle to your sweet tea in the container where you want to make your brew…

@ericdaryl Ah! I figured this might be a possibility - I might even have done it before.

But this time round, I don’t really feel like nurturing a scoby from scratch. Though in retrospect, it would have been easier to just pop down to the store and grab a bottle.

@slothrop
It will be nice to know you’ve got a healthy culture to start with!

I got the idea because I did the same thing to clone a few beers I liked back when I was making beer… the kombucha was comparatively easy.
