Question: which #Linux #distro to install on an ancient, 15+ years machine with just 2GB of RAM?

Yesterday I tried to install #Ubuntu 2024.04, but it failed at various points. Most likely ran out of RAM.

@PCzanik@fosstodon.org start with linux mint's default desktop environment, cinnamon. If it's too heavy and doesn'trun smoothly, go to a fedora, debian, or Ubuntu flavour that comes with either xfce or lxqt desktop environments which are quite lightweight. If it still doesn't run smoothly, I recommend #antix . It's not very beginner friendly but it's very lightweight and should run like lightning. I believe KDE and GNOME installations will be too heavy in any case.
