@Mastodon I want to spend more time on Mastodon (and Bluesky), but the engineering-over-design bias is obvious. I’m no fan of like Meta, but Threads shows what happens when design is taken seriously. If Mastodon wants to compete, it needs designers at the table. That being said, I’m still glad you’re around!

From the 7 options to donate, there's 1 european (german) , and 6 US (including corporate offers).
I wonder if there is any 'europe' left in mastodon or if it has been swallowed up by the US allready like all other european competitors.

Here's a thing about general content, I'll try to explain it short.
When new people are looking at mastodon they expect posts from european countries, with interesting/funny/happy/news/daily things.
Now log out and open f.e. mastodon.social, and look at the main timeline. Give it a good scroll.
What you see is mostly US people ranting/complaining about US companies/people. It's not really an 'invitation' for europeans.
But again, this is just my point of view.

It might sound hypocritical, but I'll make a wish: If the totalitarian CCP collapses and the fear caused by big data surveillance disappears, donating to Mastodon will be one of my top priorities.

Is it just me ? How come I never see posts by Akkoma, Pleroma, GoToSocial and other Mastodon alternatives asking for donations ?

In your "How we use donations" section, the button to get the Annual report says "Annual Report - 2023", when it should be 2024, as the link clearly links to a 2024 PDF file.

@Mastodon why can I only donate through US Fintech companies? I don't want to do that because they can't have my data... I live in Belgium. Is there no possibility to wire transfer to your German host? All you need is a bank account in EU and all EU residents can sponsor you with a simple bank transfer.
@random_sapiens our our fiscal sponsor in the EU is WE AID, and there's a SEPA Direct Debit option via that route. We're aware we can do more to make it easier to donate, and will see what we can do to improve this.

@Mastodon hey guys, thanks. It is just your website that is confusing. As a Belgian citizen I am unlikely to click on "Tax deductible donations", "From Germany". To me it seems this is only for Germans.
So maybe add a link to WE AID on the tab "More individual donation options".

@Mastodon No censorship as well would be nice cause X is not the place for free speech every word you say will get you banned. I am thinking about keeping Mastodon and abandoning X the only thing I use it for is lurking.
