#Introduction #FediHire

Hi everyone! 👋 Despite being a longtime Fediverse lurker (Mastodon.uno + a self-hosted blog), this is the first time I join a generalist English-speaking instance. After earning my PhD in #GlobalStudies (UBC) and working in journalism, I’m now exploring tech/policy roles, especially in #digitalrights, #opensource, and #IT. Moving back to #Europe and keen to collaborate!

When I am off-duty, I’m a #Linux die-hard and a sucker for Turkish/Anatolian psychedelic rock 🙂

@angelomassaro Hi Angelo -- welcome. I'd love a great URL/pointer for some Turkish/Anatolian psychedelic rock. I'm a fan of things like Khruangbin and Tinariwen but I'm not on Spotify so I usually ask folks when I want to hear about new bands.

@angelomassaro yes yes to the Anatolian psych rock! I listened to almost nothing else for a few months back there

@Turner I agree. It’s incredibly addictive! I once saw Altın Gün perform live in Zagreb, and it was an amazing experience. I especially love their rendition of "Anlatmam Derdimi"

@angelomassaro Welcome back in Europe. 🙂
„Turkish/Anatolian psychedelic rock" … I'm very open for suggestions, at which bands/artists I definitely ought to through an ear. 😁

Curiosity, part 2: Why the change to mastodon.social and not just using your own existing Mastodon instance for posting, too, just on top of lurking?

That musical genre is a deep rabbit hole, for sure! For recent picks, check out Altın Gün, Gaye Su Akyol, or Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek. For classics, I would start listening to Barış Manço, Cem Karaca, Erkin Koray, and Selda Bağcan; though there’s so much more to explore.

As for my setup: I use a self-hosted GotoSocial instance for long posts, but its federation feels limited, so I’m testing this account for broader reach.

@angelomassaro Thanks for the hints, I'll take my dive into the genre as soon as a suitable time window appears.

Ah, ok. I'm on a single-user Friendica instance. In the past I had thoughts about the outcome of federation compared to a big instance, too. Currently, I have the impression that with a few matching relays, the difference is not that relevant.

@musenhain I should dig deeper into the relay use-case. Do you have any recommendations/tutorials in English?

@angelomassaro It's been a while I looked after that topic and I don't know of a real tutorial. Some links from my list:

Short explanation and some curated Relays:

Looking for relays:

Getting very specific subsets of hashtags/instances based on personal choice:
