@biptoot Important research - but sadly the value of it will be lost if We鈩笍 don't also get better at describing, with receipts, why destroying the things They鈩笍 are destroying is bad for everyone.
I have entire books which lay out these mechanisms & they can be politically undone with one question: "And what's so bad about that?".
We have to make the people who think civilization is a bad thing work hard for their position, rather than just coast on that question like they do now.
@jwcph This paper also introduced me to "Bullshit Asymmetry" - the amount of energy required to refute bullshit is orders of magnitude greater than that to create it.
Your point is spot on. I'm definitely up for the challenge of challenging the "what's so bad about that?" crowd
@biptoot you're right about bullshit asymmetry, but on the other hand there is SO MUCH EVIDENCE of how & why it's bad - some of is even simple, but we're behind because almost nobody, including the political actors who should have, have said much about it for generations. We have our work cut out for us & we could start by not making it harder by letting them鈩笍 define the conversation.

I think I was in my late 30s when my brain made the jump from thinking "they really should do something about this dumpy town I have to live in" to "omg it's me, 'public' means it's all our jobs" and it's only been the last few years that I've put that into action.
