Today I want to introduce people to my favorite Nubian Egyptian singer and oud player of the 20th century: Hamza el-Din
The oud was originally a woman's instrument, but in the 19th and 20th century, the oud switched to a male dominated instrument.
Hamza al-Din was one of the most prominent oud players & composers to come out of the Arabic Renaissance. His music envokes both his Egyptian and Nubian heritage.
I am attaching a YouTube playlist of his songs: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbc7z_td9AqbYLC1qxUbPhL2Am7jtLCLk&si=K878ZOpIb2XsMDMv
