Mountain View suspends license plate readers; agencies accessed flock camera data without consent

Crime-fighting cameras are all over the Bay Area, but now one city is shutting them off, for now. How one wrong click opened up drivers' data in Mountain View to federal agents.

@ai6yr I hadn't realized how prevalent Flock readers were in my area, just one county north of Mountain View. At least they're being reconsidered. Seems I need to write to my city council and the county board of supervisors regarding getting these removed or at least turned off.

@ai6yr City of Los Altos Hills already has and East Palo Alto is reviewing theirs

In addition the whole County Of Santa Clara is looking at evaluating stop the use of them as well.

You should be at every council meeting both city and county to DEMAND the removal of these cameras

"..."What we're seeing is that license plate reader data is playing with fire," said Adam Schwartz, Privacy Litigation Director, Electronic Frontier Foundation.... The city of Mountain View said there was a 'nationwide' search setting that was turned on - without permission." #flock #alpr #privacy
