I am so disappointed with so many companies that I used to consider privacy and security defending companies, jumping on the AI bandwagon. In my latest search for a new search engine, I found that most, not all, but most, are now pushing AI.

And to the search companies describing their AI search services as "privacy respecting search", how can it be privacy respecting when you're using AI, which steals data to train models, as "privacy respecting"?

Get out of here with your unethical bullshit.

@cmccullough and yet you can’t even comprehend when companies give you the choice not to have AI and gathers community feedback (eg. DuckDuckGo: noai.duckduckgo.com, html.duckduckgo.com, voteyesornoai.com) instead of ones that dont (microslop). You are taking your anti-ai stance way too far for your own good. You can choose not to use it still of course but at least have some decency rather than go all no AI. Sorry but I cant follow your posts anymore after this. Disclaimer below. (1/3)

@cmccullough
Disclaimer: I am not fully against AI. to be precise I am anti unethical AI (data center impacting daily lives, training off copyrighted works for stable diffusion, causing ram prices to skyrocket & people using it to become dumber rather than as a pure tool, rampant convincing scams or deepfake defamation with the use of AI). But i am not against ethical AI… (2/3)

@cmccullough (AI that doesn’t have to be forced on you, is ran locally, used as a tool and you do your own fact checking as best as possible to not rely on it, you do not use to scam or impersonate/threaten someone) and I think that AI genuinely needs to be regulated to prevent alot of the damages or unethical behavior happening right now. @gorujocy How am I taking my anti-AI stance way to far for my own good? The many ethical issues alone are reason to not support it. Stealing data to train the models, using up our water resources for data centers, helping burn the planet, etc. Support it if you want. Whatever. I don't support it for the ethical reasons, and never will. Someone telling me that it's in my best interest to support it won't get me to support it.

@cmccullough I feel that. I've been actively looking for options that don't integrate generative AI and it's a challenge. I've been using https://www.searchfortrees.com/ and just keep hoping I didn't miss something.

Cheesed me off when Ecosia and Startpage jumped in.

What are you using now?

@cynical13 At the moment, I'm still on DDG until I can find a good one without AI. I received some really good recommendations over the past couple of days that I will be trying soon.
