We've just released Adour 9.0 with pianoroll windows, cue recording and editing, region effects, a realtime perceptual analyzer, mixer strips importing and exporting, various quality-of-life improvements, and many more changes

Check out the full release notes: https://ardour.org/whatsnew.html

I'm the opposite of an early adopter, but what the #Ardour #DAW folks have put into version 9 released yesterday… it's a a huge leap for dawkind. 😅 Makes me want to upgrade.

The list of improvements is very long.

@nielso that indeed looks very, very nice. Definitely going to give it a test run with a subset of my studio!

(I have already used Ardour in version 6 through 8, whenever I was abroad and could afford the luxury of using only one audio interface. As soon as it's multiple interfaces, PipeWire unfortunately precludes the use of Linux for my purposes…)

@stephan

Just out of interest, what is your multi-audio-interface setup that doesn't work with PipeWire?

(I'm a single interface guy myself, so I actually never tried multiple interfaces… in recording/playback with a DAW)

@nielso

connected via a single USB hub are:

1 Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820
1 M-Audio Air 192|14
1 Focusrite Sacrlett 2i2
1 Zoom AMS-44

giving me a total of 22 inputs, which often are in use simultaneously.

With a Mac and CoreAudio it's no problem at all, it basically just works.

With pipewire, each of the interfaces is enumerated differently after sleep/restart, and some are forgotten randomly, both issues leading to Ardour projects with tracks no longer connected.

@stephan how do you normally use this many interfaces at once?

@mosgaard

simple, I sit in the middle of this and enjoy playing whatever I feel like without having to wire anything. 😊

Also, we’ve recorded drums and live percussion here (that is, in an adjacent room), plus live guitar and bass, can’t have too many inputs for that sort of thing.

@stephan I have never thought of combining interfaces like that actually, but I like how you do it, makes a lot of sense.
