Some of the racy graphic novels my son will be able to check out from the library after he turns 18 this month
Our #library board is insane. Local elections matter.
(And yes, I've told both my kids I'll check them out anything they want. But that's not a solution. )
The library had to reorganize darned near the whole place to create separate parts of the building for where young people can read/check out materials. Almost everything is now divided up that way and it's obviously pretty darned arbitrary what goes in what sections. I've yet to figure out any sort of actual principle involved.
@venya I know everybody is supposed to be all overworked and everything, but if people have time to organize to make this happen, they clearly need more shit to do.
My first internet access (free text-mode dialup at 14.4kbps!) was through our local library. Before that, they published monthly updated lists of local bulletin board systems. I got into a lot of things I never would have found about without those (for good and ill).
@venya me too. I'm honestly feeling a little riled up about it. It also pisses me off because you know the librarians are super, super sad about it but they probably can't say that.
My impression from my older son (who volunteers there sometimes) is that there has been a LOT of turnover of library staff.
