So now I'm hearing about so-called Open Source projects closing PR contributions from the outside world because it's easier to "generate the code" from within their org just based on people's bug reports or whatever.

**Mask off moment.**

These people never cared about #OpenSource or #LibreSoftware. They just cared about marketing & free labor. Now that they can get "free labor" from slop machines faster, they'll do that.

🙄

Folks, we need real community now more than ever.

@jaredwhite Though I will say - the drive by slop PRs are a curse. I've heard of some projects that will accept PRs, but only after someone has created an Issue first before they can get access to be an external contribution.

@JessTheUnstill Oh sure, it's definitely a problem. I'm just objecting to the "solution"… 😅

@jaredwhite I was ready to sympathise with the author of that post when it seemed like the problem was AI.

But they seem to want to defend AI at the same time that it’s causing problems for them. They want to fix the problems without accepting what the cause of them is.

@benjamineskola That seems an evergreen observation, unfortunately. You're quite right!

@jaredwhite That’s sad to hear. Projects I follow tend to be closing PRs at a record rate, but because they’re PR slop. Human-written PRs still reviewed and accepted.
