WoW... this is one of the worst things I have read this days. I am not using Instagram at all, but E2E should be a mandatory feature everywhere... why on Earth would they remove it?
You know what would be worse - people knowing this and still continuing to use the application...
@_elena yeah, I'm with you. Most don't understand and if they do, they don't care.
My family hears me, but they also don't fully understand the impact of what is going on online. They only see the direct impact these action have for them and that is normally what big tech uses to sell these things as "improvement".
@sturmsucht @_elena I honestly believe that a lot of people don't understand how very much online they are. Even non-techy people are constantly on their phone, for leisure or because a service is only available digitally. And the way they talk about their phones is like they own them, not knowing or realizing that hundreds of companies are there with them, lurking, spying.
That is such a strange business model nowhere else to be found, which makes it so hard to explain that this is reality.
@_elena maybe send them those many articles about dead people you have used AI for medical advises 😬
When I tried to explain that their data is used - or better sold - to ad companies to serve them with ads, they didn't really see the point. For them ads is something they think they can ignore and the don't get what this actually means.
It changes when I rephrased it as their data is being sold to profile them. Because that as a complete different meaning. A meaning of surveillance.
