It will not preserve privacy.
If it depends on something local on an app*, then that feeds the duopoly of Alphabet / Google and Apple.

@HennaVirkkunen Please don’t. Better put restrictions on the algorithms. Age verification only gives these data hoarders more data about *everyone* because every user has to identify with its age (how to otherwise know if an account is a parent or child). And yes, also a yes/no age request tells these companies the age because the children wil reauthenticate on their birthday as soon as they turn 15.

@HennaVirkkunen you are forcing big tech players to build surveillance infrastructure, while drowning out smaller players, and doing nothing effective against child abuse online.

For far too long the unruly citizenry could unjustly and anonymously call out the alleged transgression of politicians and their paymasters.

The "internet passport" was two decades in the making. It's an accomplishment all future authoritarians will be grateful for.

Going forward, an autonomous social media account would require children to be 15. For 13-14 year-olds, parents could set up mini accounts with limited features and screen time, while keeping full oversight.
