The MeshCore network is growing fast. This is why recently Regions have been introduced, a kind of „filter“ for messages.

I’m happy to see that ISO 3166-2 seem to be the way to go, as I suggested in a previous post.

So I will set up the following Regions (skipping hash sign here)

de
de-bw
de-bw-em (Emmendingen)
de-bw-fr (Freiburg, LKBH)
de-bw-loe (Lörrach)
de-bw-muel (Müllheim)
de-bw-og (Offenburg / Ortenau)
de-bw-wt (Waldshut)
suedbaden (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regierungsbezirk_S%C3%BCdbaden)
upper-rhine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Rhine)
europe

I’ll also add French Regions on repeaters close to the border. After a grace period, I will apply “denyf *”. Anyone who really wants to reach the whole of Europe with their messages should deliberately select the region “ #europe”.

@blackforestmesh

This is similar to our Atlas and "fedigeo".
Depending on the zoom it will show according "regions" near the map, it covers a lot and is so compressed (for clients).
Internally we use geohash but it is user friendly.
Just saw the names and have a question:

- Is it intended that the iso stuff is lowercase ?

To avoid confusion with e.g. ISO language / BCP47 tags, we do e.g.
DE-BW-208o0 ad the last part is a base32 string for the OSM relation id of the narrower context. Although fedigeo has aliasses like maybe "suedbaden" for things which are very informal-

btw; can post a gist if anyone is interested

@sl007 @blackforestmesh

The grouping by region is VERY cool. And it will be very useful for looking at the big picture. Great job!
