The social media staffer has been doing a great job, from where I stand.
The necessary evil of using other platforms while on a campaign of this scale is understandable - the network effect is strong, but hopefully steps like this, taken by principled & authentic leaders like yourself will help solve that problem.

Its not fear, its talking to people.
Unions do not choose their members. The boss does. Unions are an assembly of people chosen by the employer.
Going door to door is meeting people where they are.
I urge the NDP to post on Mastodon FIRST, so the press knows to look here first, so the public knows it.
Like trying to get elected without talking to people in condos.

2/ But yes, we are still on The Website of Undiluted Vileness, as we are on all the others. Our team debates this constantly, and I personally would love to get off the most toxic one (though if we’re honest, the owners of all the big platforms are equally craven in their extractive practices, their eager surveillance, and enthusiastic embrace of rising fascism in our time).
For now, we’ll continue to reach people wherever they are. And if we win leadership of the NDP, our community will take our vigorous internal debate about how to square our values with our online activities - and do what we can not just on policy, but on practice.
I know there will be many of you who are unsatisfied with this position. But I think the Fediverse is one of the last public spaces where transparency and honesty are the minimum standard, and I want to honour that culture by sharing where our campaign is at right now.
It is a cosmic relief to finally be here, and I’ll check in and chat whenever I can.

@kevinrns @avilewis These actually are really good ideas. Publish here first and use a link to *those* posts for all communications. Post links to here from your other platforms. This is the only way to normalize Masto use, and allows you to gradually abandon other platforms without cutting off from followers from one day to the next.
@avilewis Rage Against The Machine went with a major label in order to get the word out about stuff like major labels.
