Final #NDP π Debate: One Candidate Rises To The Top Of The Leadership Race - YouTube
Danielle Smithβs address was a chilling moment that recalls some of the ugliest anti-immigration chapters of our countryβs history.
This is what demagogues do: pit the public against the most vulnerable and blame them for the very crises their austerity policies have created.
Immigrants aren't to blame for Alberta's crumbling healthcare system, overcrowded classrooms, and strained social services β Danielle Smith and the UCP are.
All federal leaders must come together to condemn Smithβs politics of division and stand up for the human rights of people who are our neighbours, friends and a part of our communities.

"The most fiscally responsible goddam government [Alberta's] had in the last ten years was the NDP."
Am listening to #TheLineCa podcast ( @6618555 ); they're discussing the recent referendum questions from Premier Smith. Their take on it is that the government of #Alberta is about to announce a massive deficit (due to high spending and oil prices falling back to normal levels), and these questions are meant to distract the public.

'NDP leadership candidates pitch their rebuilding plans to voters in final debate'
During the debate, Tanille Johnston said Canada 'needs to bring in a universal basic income to pull people out of poverty, end fossil fuel subsidies and have proper government-to-government relations with Indigenous communities.'
Avi Lewis said the NDP 'needs to be putting forward big, bold ideas' including 'government-run options in groceries, telecoms and banking as a means of addressing affordability.'

Lewis had a good answer when asked about Nenshi that mentioned all of the things above w/ regards to what's happening in Alberta.
Although I'm not sure I heard Nenshi saying "who cares, we are united" the way Lewis is characterizing it...the last thing I heard Nenshi say is this
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/naheed-nenshi-ndp-leadership-race-9.7072751
desperately working the CPAC video player controls so I can hear what the QuΓ©bec NDP member (and former candidate) Malcolm Lewis-Richmond is actually saying
Moderator inadvertently manifested nenshi as premier next year when she asked mcpherson "how would you negotiate between nenshi and eby, those 2 premiers" and IM MANIFESTING IT TOO
Maybe an unpopular opinion but: the Alberta NDP winning the provincial election in Alberta next year is actually way more important than this leadership race. Unlike the federal NDP, they actually have a chance at forming government.
This is especially with the Alberta fall referendum announced today which is just a huge disgusting targeting of immigrants in Alberta. Alberta right now is a lab for importing MAGA ideas, from targeting immigrants to targeting trans people to breaking organized labour, all through anti-democratic mechanisms. If these policies are enacted in Alberta they become acceptable and normalized things for governments to do in Canada. And that puts us on a very, very bad path.

Heather McPherson is also the only one so far to recognize another uncomfortable truth: The provincial NDP parties in this country are way more important and impactful and relevant than the federal one right now

in the environment section @votetanille has the best answer on the the reality of the canadian resource economy (as much as we like to fool ourselves we are still heavily a resource extraction economy)
really refreshing answers from her so far in this debate
