Oh! The freedom!

I have finally installed an RSS-reader on my laptop, so I can follow blogs and read news that way. Such a relief to read texts in a dark-mode screen only with no adds and breaks.

Focusing on fewer social media have made room for this, and I'm really grateful. I should have done this a long time ago.

@mosgaard I'm wondering--what RSS reader are you using? I use the RSS feature in Thunderbird because it's convenient, but I'm trying to find a good recommendation for my non-Thunderbird-using friends (and maybe find something a bit more purpose-specific than Thunderbird). Yes, RSS is wonderful!

@MusicologyHippo I had no idea Thunderbird had an RSS reader :)

I use Newsflash, super simple, found it in the Apps for Gnome archive: https://apps.gnome.org/en-GB/NewsFlash/

Newsflash – Apps for GNOME

Keep up with your feeds – Newsflash is a program designed to complement an already existing web-based RSS reader account. It combines all the advantages of web based services like syncing across all your de...

What do you all suggest for an RSS reader these days? I’ve used Feedly for years but I don’t love it and it’s AI-enthusiastic now, which I’m not. (I’m on windows, sorry)

@jonassmith
Thanks! Right I also have an iPhone, so ideally it should work on both that and my windows laptop.

@mcmullin @jonassmith @lislegaard you can also check out "Reeder" on iOS. I it has the same dark-mode simple vibe I like, but have to be honest I'm not really using my phone for RSS.

@mcmullin @jonassmith @mosgaard

I haven't been on Windows since 😜 unfortunatly. I use NetNewsWire but it is Apple only (iphone + mac).

Let me know where you end up, with more and more Linux brewing I need to change to something cross platform at some point.

Unless I end up hosting something that can be accessed in a browser of course.

@mcmullin @lislegaard I'm afraid my RSS-reader is Linux only it seems. I just searched for a simple rss reader with dark-mode, and it's working so fine!

@lislegaard Actually you probably are the first person to exhibit the expected/actual definition of what an influencer is supposed to be doing in most occasions for me lol and i’m not saying that because you’re my lovely mate per se @mosgaard

A sidenote:

Modern digital media are the enemy of us ADHD'ers. If non-ADHD'ers are tired of articles being split up by unrelated articles and adds all the time, then think of how it feels to both be interrupting yourself with ideas, things you forgot, plans you have etc... all the time AND being interrupted by the media you use.

Yup. That's life for many ADHD'ers and since many of us are impulsive too, there is a good change to de-rail us and notch us into something different.
