@_elena Nice!
Hope they're all still enjoying their time here.
I've tried to catch up with how things are going by occasionally skimming through the Hard Fork podcast.
Would love to see a more dedicated "life of a fediverse admin" blog/podcast where people talk about their experience!
@_elena You're a good person Elena! Keep up the good work!
@phillycodehound thank you Seth! I try my best 🥹

J'ai jeté un coup d'oeil à #theforkiverse j''y ai vu ceci :
https://jasette.facil.services/@brettezeleliquide@h4.io/116130152726423687
Et ça valait totalement la peine.
@MichelPatrice aw yes, amazing! sadly that account doesn't belong to the forkiverse... their homepage lists popular toots from across the fediverse (not just local ones) 🥲
Mais j'ai découvert ça à travers eux.
Et c'est rigolo.
Ta petite est probablement assez grande pour trouver ça drôle.
@_elena I thought journa.host was the main journalist server - worth looking through the profiles for both!
@brianrepko yes! today I found out that press.coop is no more (I can't connect to it) but journa.host is amazing
@_elena @brianrepko Flipboard took over that project and converted those accounts to their server.
@mediopocillo @brianrepko oh great to hear that, I had completely missed it
@_elena thank you! Some of us are still around and not planning to leave 😊
@Kristine thank you for being here Kristine!
The advantage of the Fediverse is that even if your server shuts down, you could migrate your account and your followers to a different server. I'm sure there are DOZENS of people on the Fediverse willing to help you out, if it ever came to that.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions or need help 😊
@_elena @IceCubesApp I never really understood how mastodon etc worked or what they were for until the forkiverse happened.
It feels like ive finally found ‘my’ social media.
@_elena I'd never heard of this. Interesting!

@_elena In case you missed it, there was a follow-up episode about it on the collaborating podcast, #HardFork:
Hard Fork: Jonathan Haidt Strikes Again + What You Vibecoded + An Update on the Forkiverse
Starting from: 00:49:26
Episode webpage: https://www.nytimes.com/column/hard-fork
@_elena That was interesting! I like how they presented setting up a Mastodon instance as "starting their own social media platform". I suppose that is what they did, in a way.
Also interesting that they suggest the Fediverse's goals are old-fashioned, in wanting to go back to social media the way it was ten, fifteen years ago. Also a fair assessment... But what would be a non-evil way of making something new that appeals to younger people, then?
@bammerlaan @_elena Do the addictive media platforms actually appeal to them or is it just that they haven't had a chance to experience something different and less ensnaring?
@_elena Thanks! Thankfully, it does not. I have vibe sinned myself in my time 🙈
@_elena @IceCubesApp Wait. I can browse and interact local timeline of other servers? 🤯
@jannik YES!!! @IceCubesApp and apparently Moshidon allow that. It's AMAZING
@_elena I've been trying to do this on Moshidon and while I do believe it can do this, I can't find out how 🙈
@bammerlaan ok so:
1) tap the three little dots in the top right
2) select edit timelines
3) click on the plus sign (top right)
4) select + local
5) type whichever server you want to explore
6) go back to the home feed, click on the Home pulldown menu and select the local server you're interested in
(admittedly, it's a little complicated, in IceCubes it's more intuitive)
@_elena Ah, I hadn't thought to look there. Thanks!
@bammerlaan I'll download it on my Pixel w grapheneOS and report back!
@_elena so.. what’s the server? Xd
@_elena @IceCubesApp As my first real home in the Fediverse I've found it pretty great. Shared love of podcasts makes it easy to start conversations :-)
@jonassmith it's wonderful to hear 😊
Thats so great to hear!
I'd love to learn more about it too.
You mentioned that nearly 10,000 users joined in a couple of weeks thats amazing!
Were they all journalists, or was it a mix of journalists and people from the Fediverse who wanted to be part of a community started by them?
Im really curious how it's grown since then.
Thanks for doing your part to make them feel welcome! 😊
@abbas_dp it's all regular people who love the Hard Fork podcast (by Kevin and Casey) and PJ's Search Engine.
Stats aren't entire accurate, but here they are: https://fedidb.com/servers/theforkiverse.com
@_elena@mastodon.social @IceCubesApp@mastodon.online I've been also browsing there local timeline with moshidon for some time now, atmosphere on there is a little different than ours
@Stomata indeed - I've been liking a lot of posts and replying to everything... except people praising AI tools, because I just can't 😔
@_elena@mastodon.social exactly there seems to be a lot of vibecoding stuff going on there
