At least 105 people have now been murdered in strikes on suspected drug boats as part of a campaign, dubbed Operation Southern Spear, that the Trump admin claims is aimed at curtailing drug trafficking.

The admin has labeled those killed “unlawful combatants” & claimed the ability to engage in lethal strikes without judicial review due to a “classified” #DOJ finding.

The strikes are part of increased #US #military action in #SouthAmerica in recent months amid a pressure campaign on #Venezuela, a nation that #Trump has accused of stealing US “oil, land & other assets”—though no one knows WTF he’s talking about.

#Trump Monday declined to answer a question about his endgame in #Venezuela, even as he again threatened land strikes & said it’d be “smart” for #Maduro to step down.

“There’s no answer. He can do whatever he wants. We have a massive armada—the biggest we’ve ever had, & the biggest we’ve ever had in South America. He can do whatever he wants. It’s all right, whatever he wants to do. If he wants to do something, if he plays tough, it’d be the last time he’s ever able to play tough.”

@Nonilex Venezuela nationalised their oil industry in 1976. That meant a bunch of US corporations lost their property.

Trump is replaying all the reactionary Boomer grievances from the 1980s. That's all he does.

I realize that’s what he’s referring to, I just think his logic is wrong. It’s Venezuela’s land, their resources, they can choose to whom they lease their lands.
