The only way it is going to affect Americans' thinking is if it directly affects their vacation plans. Canceling their fjord cruises or their backpacking across Europe would get their attention. If there is an invasion of Greenland, it should be met with a pan-European response.
@randahl most of them probably don't, but also if they did know, most of them wouldn't care because he can do no wrong in their eyes and "sanctions" would sound weak to them.
