Hey @Jorg1w, thanks for the follow request! Unfortunately there's not enough vibe on your profile to check, so...

If you could snap your fingers and replace cars with any other existing mode (or two) of transportation—complete with all the infrastructure needed—what would you choose?

*note: it doesn't *have* to be practical.

Since Seattle is hilly and has a big North-South ridge, I'd go for a fast rail down the middle, and hanging gondolas from the train stations down into all the East–West neighborhoods. The rest would be mostly footpaths.

@alice @Jorg1w I'd want horse-drawn carriages, but not privately owned, only public.

@alice Does it have to be possible?

If it doesn't have to be possible with currently-available technology, teleporters. Need to get to London on short notice? Teleporter. Need to get to the grocery store? Teleporter. Need to empty your bladder? Lock onto the urine within your bladder, teleport that outta here.

@alice does it have to exist in reality? If not, I would say Tar Trek's transporters. If it does, good bus and rail service including point to point and not just hub and spoke.

@alice

As I'm well-known for hating cars, I'd love to have that super power.

I think electric busses (driven by humans, preferably not men) would actually be rather nice. They can even use existing infrastructure and are not bound the specific routes (think of anything on rails and an accident or malfunction along the way blocking any further traffic on that line).

If throwing practicality overboard is a thing, please provide me with a network of Silt Striders – I've got plenty of time. #Morrowind

@alice @Jorg1w Ziplines. A massive network of ziplines, with people and freight lifted to the necessary heights by wind-and-water-powered winches.

Medium range Teleporters

Remove the cars but leave trains, trams etc. (Public transport)

You'd be able to transport directly to a train station if you wanted to, or just safely walk there

Why not teleport everywhere? The human connection during travel. There's a reason a lot of stories use "strangers meet while traveling". Plus, who doesn't enjoy staring out a window at the landscape rolling by?
