And our last question of the week:
Q8. Do you have a year-end photo to share? As usual, cycling-related or not is fine. Tell us about it!

Nothing to do with cycling. We spent today on phasee two of erecting our community polytunnel.. Posts are now all concreted in place. If the weather holds and we'll get the polycarbonate sheets up next weekend
@ascentale @bikenite A8. Not cycling related, but I made a nice oatmeal stout beer bread this week 😀🍻🍞
A8: Well I didn't, but then had my first snowy commute of the season this morning! Absolutely no attempt has been made to maintain bike paths in my city, but things were clear once I got to the casino. :P
@ascentale @bikenite A8. #BikeNite
I'll go with the #CoffeeOutside one: 7:00 on Dec 26, the last Friday of the year, I'm waiting for the first people ro arrive to the weekly meetup, and eventually we had around 15 folks? ☕🍵
@ascentale @bikenite I snapped this on my way to work Tuesday, beautiful snowy morning.
A Happy Hot Chocolate and a Prosperous Polenta Cake to everyone who makes #Bikenite such a fun virtual meet up
And a special thanks to Phil who facilitates this epic multi continental cycling carnival each week
@ascentale @bikenite A8 not really a year end photo as I may ride more but this was me just after dawn out in Cheshire today.
@ascentale @bikenite A8. To be honest. I really dislike the grey, cloudy, cold winter. Can't wait to go out in spring to see views like this. I took this picture in late summer during an afternoon round.
Have wonderful and safe New Year!
#bikenite
@realSiegfried @ascentale @bikenite
I looked out one grey, humid, just-above freezing day and thought, "MISERABLE!" but I shall ride on in to work...
I wasn't 2 tenths of a mile pedaling (probably into the wind) and realized I was grinning and that endorphins were happening and ... maybe its my Celtic/Norse/Gernam heritage, but .... I thoroughly enjoy grey.
@geonz @ascentale @bikenite Enjoy! I really love hearing stories like these.
I have a friend. She loves the mystic of a foggy November day too.
A8:
I have so much bike photos this year so picking one is nearly impossible. So I picked this one to remind everyone that we are indeed angels.
@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A8: my bike's odometer rolled over to 10000 miles this week just as I was passing my favorite local pub. Unfortunately they were closed at the time 😂
@ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A8. Earlier, I installed my new 300 mm handlebar cockpit extension. It turns out the bracket for the ebike display is not adjustable and conflicts with the only spot I can mount the extender arms because of the handlebar taper and sweep, so it had to go on the extender, with my flashlight mount and phone mount. I have a small zipper pouch I'm going to mount to the extender, as well, to stash my keys when I'm not wearing a jacket.

Our annual ugly sweater ride, aka "Peppermint Latte Ride"
@footsteps @ascentale @bikenite Wonderful to see so many passionate cyclists!
A8. This is Suehirotei, the famous rakugo (Japanese comedy) theatre in Shinjuku 3-chome. I'd just finished lunch at a stand-up sushi bar (where I was able to help a few foreign tourists with their orders) with my partner and her mother, after which we'd split up to do separate shopping.
I also visited Y's Road, a large bicycle chain retailer, nearby in 2-chome.
@ascentale @bikenite
A8: My ride from earlier today on a borrowed bike, taking advantage of unseasonably warm weather, overlooking the Tennessee River.
@ascentale @bikenite but really these are my year end images. Modest, but a good trend.
@ascentale @bikenite A8: The tiny island of Sakushima is a 45km ride and 20-minute ferry ride from the house here in Nagoya. As last year, I rode down on Christmas Eve and spent the night at the guest house Chidori, where an excellent seafood dinner is served.
The island environment is peaceful, and a good getaway from the city. I biked around a little on Christmas Day, and paused to snap this photo near a local temple, of a proud dwelling that has seen better days.

@ascentale @bikenite A8: always love this - remembered to take one actually - i've been enjoying the fall leaves here in San Francisco and after the wind and rain they were all over the bike lanes (as well as some tree branches). I did like the colors though as I rode down the bike lane on Valencia! #BikeNite
@genex @ascentale @bikenite Oh yikes! I white-knuckle my handlebars on wet leaves here in London: they're basically made of soap!
@spacehobo @ascentale @bikenite I probably wasn't super wise but then i think these leaves aren't as slick maybe? I had ridden through similar leaves and it felt OK :)
@ascentale @bikenite A8: I do! I made a rain-tight cargo pod a while ago but it was super rattily so I never used it. This past summer I figured it out (finally - I was approaching it all wrong) and I finally used it for the first time today. Worked a treat, too. Glad I finally have it in amongst my options for real!
A8. Here's my bike earlier in the week at the end of the line. I was riding up a dry stream bed and reached this dry waterfall, no navigable way through or over. So this was the turnaround point. Still, a beautiful ride.
@wanderinghermit @ascentale @bikenite Wow, that's ready to shoot Doctor Who _or_ (original) Star Trek. Neat!
@moira @wanderinghermit @ascentale @bikenite Definitely. I already imagine a blue phone booth in the middle of the picture. 😁
Thanks! I was not only enjoying the landscape, I was grooving on camping there for a week and never seeing another human. It's pretty remote.
@wanderinghermit @moira @ascentale @bikenite I’d be cool with simply not encountering any users …
@wanderinghermit @ascentale @bikenite that's a seriously cool looking bike. I like how the rear carrier is attached
@tregeagle @ascentale @bikenite
Thanks! That's an Old Man Mountain rack, one of the few I know of that attach to a full suspension bike. So far it seems really rugged.
Olive green wasn't a stock color, they were experimenting with new coatings and offered it to me at a discount.
@ascentale @bikenite A8. For aspirational reasons, #Albania is repeating a lot of the same mistakes the US did as far as indulging cars. Here in the capital especially, there are a lot of status games around cars & tons of car washes to keep their natural grime at bay.
So I was amused and happy to see this gent cleaning his e-bike at a car wash to get the winter mud off it. (Also reminds me of the question from last week's #BikeNite )
@ascentale @bikenite A8. This is our family dog, who enjoys riding in the front basket. The basket is attached to the downtube via pipes that fit through larger pipes on the frame, so it holds in via gravity (though I could slip a padlock through to bolt it in place if I wanted). #BikeNite
@ascentale @bikenite
#bikenite A8:
Unfortunately every photo I've taken this week is of a grandchild which I cannot share publicly.
So I'm posting a bike one from June.
@lopta @ascentale @bikenite is the caster on the bottom bike's front wheel safe?
@LovesTha @lopta @ascentale @bikenite
That's a great spot
@LovesTha @ascentale @bikenite I don't know what that means but they're not my bicycles. #BikeNite
@lopta @ascentale @bikenite the fork sweeps backwards, instead of the normal forawrds. The top bike has it right.
Guessing this is art on some stores wall?
@LovesTha @ascentale @bikenite Not intended as art and will be ridden at some point. Not a bike shop, obviously. Could the front fork be the wrong way around? #BikeNite
@lopta @LovesTha @ascentale @bikenite yes, easily fixed with the right tools and know how. Loosen headset, twist 180 degree, tighten. Test that it's actually tight. Another clue that it's the wrong way is that feet will definitely hit the wheel when you are pedaling. (See how close the pedals are to the wheel). Definitely not easy to ride, the steering will be very squirrelly, plus the foot into wheel problem.
