Good morning Fedi friends!
I'd like to create a custom #Fediverse t-shirt for my upcoming talk at #BerlinFediDay.
I thought of maybe using the Fediverse logo as the "O" for "HOPE". What do you think? Trying to gauge if it's cheesy or not, I'd love some external opinion 😅
@_elena i wonder how sancrosanct that logo is? it might perhaps work better if the sides of the pentagon were rounded?

“Hope” is a bit tarnished for me ever since the Obama era
However, maybe it is ok for the young people or those who think about that era fondly
@_elena I like it. You could create other versions like "FREEDOM" or "COMMUNITY".
@_elena Chiming in re the issue of people parsing the symbol as "A" or "Y" instead of "O":
Rotating it in a way that the darker colors are on top might help. Or brightening them. Or putting it in a circle.
The darker colors don't really pop against the dark background, leading to the difficulties in parsing it as a letter.
Update: inspired by @thisislieven I tweaked the design and used an actual "O" behind the Fediverse symbol... So that people wouldn't confuse the word with "HAPE" or "HYPE".
I've ordered a tee in blue and another in red. I hope they turn out ok! 😅

@_elena I would like the O to be somewhat darker/fainter or otherwise distinct from the other letters—so the letter has been *changed to include* the Fediverse logo, rather than placed behind it. So somewhere between the two versions. As it stands, I feel that the logo is in front of the word, rather than part of it.

That is interesting. At first I thought "well, that hexagon is clearly an 'O' character". But perhaps all letters from A - Z can be highlighted in its structure, and make a font.
I like it, but it depends on your audience and intent. If I didn't know the logo, I might think it was a gay thing, which it also works for(multipurpose?).
So... if you're advertising the fediverse to a general audience, it might silently fail. If you're making a cool thing for techies, it's pretty cool. I'd buy one.
@_elena if at some point you plan to sell these, I recommend a v-neck option, also for men 😊
