Can you recommend an electronic lock cylinder that I can,
- toggle with a raspberry nearby
- toggle with perhaps nfc tokens, maybe even dynamic ones?

I want to integrate it into existing revokable access control.
Should not be dependent on vendor servers.

If you use ZHA for Zigbee on #HomeAssistant, and have been considering upgrading from the Sky Connect or ZBT-1 to the ZBT-2 - Rest assured the migration process is one of the easiest things I've ever done with a computer.
Plug in ZBT-2. In devices, click Add on the disovered ZBT-2. Pick Migrate. Do what it says. It'll tell you when it's time to unplug your ZBT-1 or Sky Connect. My Zigbee network restabalized in the short amount of time I was distracted by an itch on my foot.

New blog post: Building a custom On-Call Pager with Home Assistant! 📟

I needed a way for clients to reach me urgently. The solution? A simple web UI (secured by Cloudflare Access + K8s) that triggers a Home Assistant webhook.

It sends me a Signal message with an ACK code. If I don't reply? It escalates to a Twilio voice call. 🚨

I'm going to reconnect my SkyConnect dongle and have it configured for Thread, since it's no longer needed for Zigbee. I'll continue this thread with how that goes - though I don't yet have any Thread devices to test it with after I set that up.

That was pretty simple. I connected my SkyConnect ZBT-1. It didn't appear in discovered, but once I located it in devices, the settings offered "Migrate" and "Use as Thread". I picked Thread, and it flashed the OpenThread firmware. Easy. I guess when I get thread devices, I'm ready.
My Zigbee upgrade came with a free Thread adapter, lol.

One word of caution to avoid headache -
DON'T remove your SkyConenct, physically or in HA, till it says to unplug it. DON'T delete "SkyConnect" after. I almost did till I noticed the "SkyConnect" entry mentions the ZBT-2. That's what it's named after migration, so leave whatever the set up refrained from deleting.

If you were wondering, cause I know I was concerned - The glowy indicator at the top of the ZBT-2 does not stay on once set up is complete. It just sits there and actually LOOKS like it's not even powered. So, no concern if you want to put it in a bedroom, or near a theater where lights might distract.

With just a few test clicks of a Zigbee button near me that controls a near by light, both having been very close to my old Sky Connect, I can already notice a speed improvement. Wow.

Yeah, I think there is a good chance Zigbee will stop pissing me off now.

Ok #homeautomation friends. I have a new wood burning fireplace. One of its features is a thermocouple thermometer in the catalytic converter. I’m supposed to use that temperature to help know when to engage the damper.

It has hard-wired leads that plug into the bottom of this device (that came with the stove). Fitting a new/additional thermometer to the fireplace is not realistic (I don’t think). But is there a device that can take these leads and can read the temperature? I want to add something to #homeassistant so I don’t have to look at the device and so I don’t have to keep replacing batteries in it.

I could hook up an ESP32 or similar with something going to a GPIO or whatever. But I don’t know where to start.

Any thoughts? Feel free to boost.
