"Despite a contentious back-and-forth and the longest government shutdown in history last fall, the GOP-led Congress allowed enhanced ACA subsidies, which had helped millions of Americans cover all or part of their marketplace premiums since 2021, to expire on Dec. 31. With the loss of the subsidies and health care costs already surging, more middle-income people face tough decisions about their health coverage this year."

Still angry about the #Democrats caving during the last #shutdown, and not managing to get the #ACA subsidies (and caving in 2010, so we need to be subsidizing the profits of private companies for people to get healthcare).

Willamette Week

Oregon Sees One of Nation’s Largest Drops in Obamacare Enrollment

About 15% fewer Oregonians signed up for Affordable Care Act insurance plans in 2026 than in 2025, one of the largest drops in the nation, according to a WW review of federal data released this week.

🚨 I know everything is going to hell, but a reminder that residents of CA, CT, DC, IL, ,NJ, NY, PA & RI still have until *MIDNIGHT TONIGHT* to enroll in #ACA healthcare coverage starting either TOMORROW or March 1st!

https://acasignups.net/26/01/31/reminder-2026-open-enrollment-still-happening-28-population

ACA Signups

Reminder: 2026 Open Enrollment is still happening for 28% of the population!

Two things are true as of today: 2026 ACA Open Enrollment has ended...and 2026 ACA Open Enrollment is still going on (in some states). The official Open Enrollment Period is over in 43 states...but residents of the other 7 (plus DC) still have time to enroll for coverage starting either February 1st or March 1st! California: January 31st Connecticut: January 31st (extended!) District of Columbia: January 31st Illinois: January 31st (extended!) New Jersey: January 31st New York: January 31st Pennsylvania: January 31st (extended!) Rhode Island: January 31st Collectively, these states have around 98 million residents, or around 28% of the total U.S. population. If you missed (or miss) the deadline for your state, you're out of luck unless you qualify for one of the following exceptions: Members of federally-recognized Native American tribes or Alaska Natives can enroll in ACA coverage year-round. If you're eligible for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you can enroll year-round. If you become eligible for a 60-day Special Enrollment Period due to having a qualifying life event like losing your existing coverage, getting married/divorced, giving birth/adopting, turning 26, getting out of prison, etc.
