More from Thomas on radio and the great outdoors—
"It's sad to see the state of the world right now and what's going on.
"Sometimes the best way to experience joy is obviously to do the things you like to do and being around the people you want to be around. And that is this radio community for me. …
"Being out here, connecting with friends, even if it's little short high-fives over the air like we do with POTA, is meaningful.
"It gets your head out of everything else that's going on so you can start to think clearly. And, frankly, in my case it gives me some of the capacity to deal with some of the bad news in the world."

The long running times of Thomas' videos used to bewilder me but now I find them comforting and encouraging.
They're like experiencing POTA with an expert without getting cold or fumbling around with the key. No pressure!
I learn a lot from these @qrper excursions — what to bring, what tree to choose, how to write with gloves on, Morse code practice.
This one reminded me that the unlicensed walkie-talkies we had as kids were 100mW. Gateway devices.
Radio is magic. And it gets you outdoors.
